The receding of the Euphrates River and the drop in its water level revealed the features of an ancient city in the countryside of Raqqa that has been hidden for decades as a result of its flooding.
Local networks and activists published a video recording of a young man monitoring the extent of the water flow in the river declining, noting that the drop was about 7 meters.
During his recording, the young man also spotted cavities carved in the rock that appeared after the river dried up and the water level in the area declined.
According to the source, these hollows are nothing but archaeological tombs of ancient civilizations that were built on the banks of the Euphrates before they were destroyed.
One of the hollows shows a gate with a staircase leading to smaller hollows that seem to be burials that were submerged in the waters of the Euphrates River.
The Euphrates River is considered one of the oldest civilizations, while a prophetic hadith states that (the Euphrates is about to lose a treasure of gold, so whoever attends it does not take anything from it), as an indication of the approaching hour.
A few months ago, the receding waters of the Euphrates River in the city of Aana, Iraq, revealed an ancient city called “The Kingdom of Talibs,” dating back to BC.
At that time, Muhammad Jassim, an Iraqi expert in the field of archeology, reported the emergence of more than 80 archaeological sites as a result of the receding waters of the Haditha Dam Lake, due to the lack of water releases into the Euphrates River.
