A group of pottery vessels have recently been discovered that give a glimpse of what was part of the diet of the ancient Egyptians.
With the Egyptian archaeological mission resuming its sixth excavation season in the Saqqara antiquities area, a group of pottery vessels adorned with ancient Egyptian inscriptions in the form of demotic lines were discovered, according to a press release published by the official account of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on Facebook on Saturday.
According to the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mustafa Waziri, in the statement, the pots contained a group of white cheese molds.

It is likely that it dates back to the late period in the time period of the 26th and 27th dynasties.
The ancient Egyptian called white cheese "Haram", a name that changed to the word "Halloum" during Coptic times, and what is now known as "Halloum cheese".
There is another set of pots that are still completely closed, and the mission will open them during the coming period to find out what secrets they hold, according to the statement.
It is worth noting that the mission began its work on the site since 2018, and previously succeeded in discovering the unique tomb of the Fifth Dynasty priest “Wahi”, in addition to 7 rock tombs, more than a thousand amulet, dozens of wooden cat statues, and cat mummies.

In 2020, the mission uncovered more than 100 closed wooden coffins from the late period inside burial wells, 40 statues of the Saqqara necropolis deity “Ptah Suker”, and 20 wooden boxes of the god “Horus”.
This discovery was ranked as one of the top 10 archaeological discoveries of 2020, and among the most eye-catching discoveries, according to the American Archaeology Magazine.
