Algeria from Above is a Franco-Algerian documentary film directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Yazid Tizi, released on June 16, 2015.
This documentary is adapted from the eponymous book, written by Benjamin Stora and Djamel Souidi and illustrated by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, published in 2005 by Éditions de la Martinière.
The Great South of Algeria is home to a fauna composed mainly of fennec foxes, gazelles, jerboas, sand cats, cheetahs, porcupines, flamingos and lizards.

In the north of the country, the countryside is populated by striped hyenas, leopards, foxes, weasels, wild cats, hares, jackals and wild boars.
Environmental activists observe that our country has an invaluable wealth of biodiversity. Nearly 3,139 plant species have been identified. The Algerian fauna includes 107 wild mammals, 336 species of birds and 20,000 species of insects. In the aquatic environment, 784 plant species are counted.

But, for its part, the pollution of the atmosphere by lead, or the tearing of the ozone layer caused by CFCs, is constantly progressing. This is what makes these environmental activists say that in Algeria, biodiversity is, today, seriously threatened. According to officials from the local Department of the Environment, several species of mammals and birds are threatened with extinction in our country.
