The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, known as “UNESCO”, paid a special tribute to the great Amazigh / international artist, Hamid Cherit, known internationally as “IDIR”, and described his departure as “a loss for all of us”.
And “UNESCO” wrote in a special post on its official account on the social networking site Twitter: “The death of the Algerian artist Hamid Cherit, known internationally as Idir, the ambassador of the Amazigh song, his mother tongue and his ancient culture, is a loss for all of us.”

The Amazigh artist Idir is one of the most prominent icons of the contemporary Amazigh song, and the owner of the immortal masterpiece “Ababa Innova”, which was translated into 20 international languages. He passed away on Saturday evening, May 02, 2020, in Bisha Hospital in the French capital, Paris, at the age of 71, after a struggle with illness. .
