Tlemcen will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the classification of Chedda as World Heritage - Top Destinations in Algeria
The celebration of the 10th anniversary of the classification of the Tlemcenian “Chedda” (bridal costume) in the list of tangible and intangible heritage of Unesco, scheduled between December 5 and 11 in progress, will give rise to various activities highlighting this world heritage, we learned from the director of the National Center for the Interpretation of Traditional Algerian Costume, Ameri Rachida.
The celebration of this event will be marked by a week of activities intended to highlight this traditional dress which reflects part of the national cultural identity, indicated the director of the national center for the interpretation of Algerian traditional costume.
In this context, a Chedda fashion show will be organized at the Royal Palace of El Mechouar, alongside another show devoted to various traditional Algerian outfits also planned for this occasion.
Tlemcen Chedda
A scientific meeting dedicated to this outfit is also scheduled under the theme of "the Tlemcenian Chedda between originality and continuity", with the participation of researchers from the National Center for Research in Prehistory, Anthropology and History (CNRPAH) and the local association “El Assala”, in addition to the presentation, on December 11, of a book on this bridal outfit and the Tlémcenian wedding, produced by the National Center for Traditional Algerian Costume based in Tlemcen.
The National Center for the Interpretation of Traditional Algerian Costume, created in 2011, strives to carry out research, explain and decode the symbols of traditional Algerian clothing in general and, in particular, the caftan or the Chedda.
Classified on December 5, 2012 by Unesco as a tangible and intangible world heritage, the wedding costume is a traditional caftan in velvet embroidered with gold threads, adorned with cultured pearls, necklaces, "meskia" and "graffache ”. Khorsa (earrings that fall on the temples) and huge earrings are suspended from a conical cap embroidered with gold threads and placed on the head.
The center of Tlemcen offers permanent exhibitions of traditional Algerian clothes, including various models, both classic and modern, which adapt to current requirements, it was explained.
