The Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture organized, today, Friday in Rabat, a meeting to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the official recognition of the Tifinagh letter.
This meeting, which was organized under the slogan “Tifinagh from rock inscriptions to institutionalization”, was an occasion to value the endorsement of this letter and to stand on the achievements made by the institute in promoting the Amazigh language in general, and the Tifinagh letter in particular.

Khaled Ansar, a researcher at the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, said that this anniversary bears an important significance for the institute, as it commemorates twenty years of recognition of the Tifinagh letter and its adoption in institutions, the educational system and public life.
Mr. Ansar explained that the integration of the Tifinagh letter went through multiple stages, pointing out that at first it was dependent on the fields of education and media, before moving, after activating the official character of the Amazigh language, to institutionalization and enhancing the radiation of the Amazigh language.
And after mentioning that many administrations have come to adopt the Tifinagh script in the formulation of the documents they issue, “which constitutes an important change,” the researcher expressed his hope that, in the future, the Tifinagh script would be integrated on a broader level.

On this occasion, a tape was shown about the official adoption of the Tifinagh letter for writing the Amazigh language. Presentations were also made by a number of researchers at the institute, stopping at “The Historical Origins of the Tifinagh Letter”, “The Written System of the Amazigh Language Tifinagh… Acquisitions, Stakes and Prospects”, and “The Tifinagh Letter in the Moroccan School”.
These presentations, which dealt with the linguistic, historical and didactic aspects of the Tifinagh letter, highlighted the criteria adopted by the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture for choosing the Tifinagh letter, as well as some of the problems it faced and the methods it adopted to overcome them, in addition to rooting the use of this Amazigh letter on a larger scale.
These interventions also dealt with the gains achieved by the Tifinagh letter, especially by gaining the recognition of the International Organization for Standardization “ISO”, and the integration of this Amazigh letter in the “Windows 2008” system, as well as in smart phones and electronic tablets.
And I considered that the Tifinagh letter is the best choice for writing the Amazigh language, recalling the antiquity of this letter, which was adopted by the ancient Amazighs in sculpture, painting, engraving and rock drawings.

Regarding the integration of the Tifinagh letter at the level of the Moroccan school, the participants unanimously agreed that the Tifinagh letter does not constitute any obstacle for the Moroccan student in his educational path.
During this meeting, various exhibitions were organized on the publications of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture on the Tifinagh letter, as well as plastic paintings on this Amazigh letter.
