The Amazigh director Zainab Wakrim won the third prize in the “Cinema Schools” competition at the 76th International Cannes Festival, with her film entitled “Ayur”, among 16 student films that were selected from among 2,000 participants selected at the level of 476 schools and institutions that teach Film careers around the world.
Zainab and Karim said in a post on her official Facebook page, "This is a first step, thanks to them... I am making films today!" Referring to her professor at the Higher School of Visual Arts in Marrakech.

She added, “I cannot celebrate this great event without thinking of these ladies, activists and founders of excellence. Thank you ladies for everything you did for me during my training and formation at the Higher School of Visual Arts in Marrakech. I am very grateful.”
The Short Films Jury in the framework of the official competition of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, chaired by Ildico Enidy and composed of Ana Lily Amirpour, Shlomi Elkabetz, Charlotte Le Bon and Karidja Touré, awarded the 2023 Festival Awards yesterday, May 25, during a ceremony held at the Buñuel Theatre, followed by the screening of the winning films.

The first prize went to Marilyn Emily Lyngstad for her movie “The Norwegian Offspring” at the Den Danske Filmskole Institute from Denmark, while the second prize went to Hwang Heen with her movie “Hole” at the Korean Academy of Film Arts in South Korea.
It is noteworthy that the festival allocates 15,000 thousand euros for the first prize, 11,250 thousand euros for the second prize, and 7,500 thousand euros for the third prize.

The award-winning films will be screened at the Cinéma du Panthéon on June 5th at 6:30pm.
“Ayour” is the first Moroccan film to participate in the official competition for short films, CINEF, at the Cannes Festival, and in one of the most important cinematic events in the world.
