Algeria announced today, Tuesday, the discovery of a coin collection of 1,140 pieces dating back to the first centuries AD, at an archaeological site in the east of the country.
"These coins date back to the fourth century AD and the Byzantine period (the sixth century AD)," the Algerian Ministry of Culture said in a statement.
The discovery of a monetary treasure in "Madaourouche" in Souk Ahras.
A monetary group consisting of 1140 pieces, some of which date back to the fourth century AD, and others dating back to the Byzantine period - the sixth century AD - was discovered in one of the features of the site, which the excavation director called the subterranean landmark.

This discovery comes through excavations that were authorized by the Ministry of Culture and Arts under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bourehli, a professor specializing in ancient archeology at the University of Algiers 2, Institute of Archaeology, at the archaeological site "Madour" in the municipality of Mdaourouche, Souk Ahras Province.
It is worth noting that the archaeological research work continues in order to reach other scientific results in appreciation and recognition of the efforts of the research team based on these excavations.
The statement added that the coins were discovered at the archaeological site (Madur) in eastern Algeria during excavations approved by the ministry and under the supervision of specialists in ancient archeology at the University of Algiers.

It is noteworthy that the Algerian Ministry of Culture announced last Sunday the recovery of seven antique rifles after they were offered for sale in an online auction in the British capital, London, dating back to the Ottoman period in Algeria.
