Today, Friday, at the headquarters of the Moroccan Archives Foundation in Rabat, the exhibition of the memory of the late Ibrahim Akhayat opened under the title “Ibrahim Akhayyat (1941-2018): A Path of Struggle for the Amazigh Identity,” on the occasion of the celebration of International Archives Day.
This exhibition, which includes rare photographs and documents dating the path of one of the actors in the Amazigh field, is a tribute to one of the intellectuals who left their mark in the history of the consecration of cultural diversity in Morocco.
By the way, the director of the Moroccan Archives, Jama Beida, said that he met the late Ibrahim Akhayat in the seventies of the last century when he was president of the Moroccan Association for Research and Cultural Exchange, which had a major role in sensitizing students to attach great importance to the Amazigh culture and language.
And he highlighted that the late was struggling to develop the Amazigh issue, especially encouraging students to prepare research on the Amazigh language and the Amazigh song, as he was the founder of the “Osman” group (Al-Barouq).

He added that Akhayat was characterized by humility, jealousy, and dedication to the Amazigh culture, this authentic component of Moroccan culture, noting that his poetry was a source of inspiration for the Amazigh musical groups.
For his part, the Dean of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, Ahmed Boukos, said that the dream of promoting the Amazigh language was what “brought me together with Khayyat in 1965, and he was then a professor of mathematics, while I was a student at the Faculty of Arts in Rabat.”
He added that the deceased attached great importance to the Amazigh issue and was not an advocate of a unilateral perception, and was distinguished by flexibility, clarity of vision, and his reconciliation between different points of view, considering that he was characterized by a “unitarian spirit” and his ability to communicate with all societal groups.
For his part, the head of the Ibrahim Akhayat Foundation for Cultural Diversity, Yassine Akhayat, confirmed in a press statement that this exhibition is of great importance because it is known about the path of the late and his best contributions to the appreciation and advancement of Amazigh culture in Morocco for several decades.
He explained that the organization of this exhibition aims to highlight the path of the late as a major contributor to the Amazigh cultural act, appreciating the participation of a group of cultural and political figures in its opening, who testified about the late.
