He did it. Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui, already Olympic champion in Tokyo, has just won the 2023 world championship in the 800-meter freestyle which takes place in Fukuoka (Japan) on Wednesday with 7 minutes 37 seconds.
He is ahead of the Australian Samuel Jack Short (7 minutes 37 seconds 67 hundredths) who had stolen the gold medal from him the day before ( see DNA of July 25 ) in the 400 meters by two hundredths of a second.

With this performance Hafnaoui approaches the world record which is 7mn 32 seconds and 12 hundredths. The goal is within reach. Aged 21, the room for improvement of the young Tunisian, serious and disciplined, is still great.
