Made of "space iron".. 3,000-year-old weapon discovered
The team used different methods to test the composition
Scientists from the University of Bern discovered an arrowhead in Switzerland that was made from the remains of an iron meteorite and is 3,000 years old.
Geologists tested the composition of the artifact, which includes a type of aluminum not found naturally on Earth.
And only 3 meteorites with the same composition fell to Earth at about the same time in Europe, one in the Czech Republic, another in Spain, and the third in Estonia.
The team believes that the Estonian space rock was the likely candidate for the material from which the discovered weapon was made, more than 1,400 miles from Switzerland.
The team believes that the arrowhead came from Estonia, which indicates that people exchanged weapons across the Baltic region.
The arrowhead is 1.5 inches long and weighs just 0.102 ounces.
The team used various methods to test the composition, including electron microscopy images, X-rays, and high-energy radiation analyses.
Researchers initially believed that the space rock used to make the weapon came from the "Tunberg" meteorite that crashed in Switzerland about 160,000 years ago.
