A rare Amazigh tree that grows only in the suburbs of Tiznit, Souss, Morocco and the Canary Islands... It is called the ajgel tree, which in Amazigh means the hanging tree because it grows hanging in the mountains and high areas.
Ajgal, or Ajgal, or the dragon tree, or Dracaena the dragon Ajgal (scientific name: Dracaena draco L subsp. ajgal), which is a genus of the lily family and is considered one of the rare plant species called endemic plants. It was discovered by chance by Mr. (F.CUZIN) and Mr. (A.BENABID) when they visited the village of “Adar” at the foot of the “Adad Madan” mountain in the year 1996 AD. They issued a study on this discovery in 1997. This recent discovery excited the joy of vegetarians and men. The scholars who flocked to the habitat of this tree to unveil the secret of the presence of this tree in the region. The word “Ajgal” means in the Amazigh language something that is suspended or difficult to reach.

The height of a single tree ranges between 6 and 10 metres. It has a long trunk that branches from the top into three branches, with its leaves crowded at the ends of the branches.
Uses
The inhabitants of the region (the Amazighs) used the sap of the Ajkal tree (dragon's blood) in so-called rock art or for medical and mental uses. Currently, the local population still uses the hollow trunks inside this tree for beekeeping. The famous documentary “Amodo” devoted an entire episode to this tree, in which he explained its location, its features, and the uses of it by the local population. He also visited with the discoverer F. CUZIN the village of Agadir Ougjal, where there is a witness tree in the middle of the village.
This tree did not receive the same attention and fame as the argan tree.
Isn't it time to invest in this medicinal tree, which has many benefits? Its gum was used by our ancestors as a red dye used in dyeing Berber carpets.
