?Did the Epic of Gilgamesh have a happy ending
?Did the Epic of Gilgamesh have a happy ending 1-713
The ending was not happy
Gilgamesh did not achieve what he was looking for
Epic poems are not just praise for the hero
The Epic of Gilgamesh tells the story of Gilgamesh's growth
Failures and sorrows are as much a necessary step to improvement as they are to success, and the odyssey includes both
Gilgamesh initially thought that no one could compete with him, but then he met Enkidu, who was brave enough to confront him, and their rivalry developed into brotherly love, and they went on many adventures together.
The loss of Enkidu made him think about the brevity of life and the mystery of the afterlife. He began searching for a way to avoid death completely, but he failed
He came so close to becoming immortal but failed
He returned home empty-handed
This may have been Gilgamesh's greatest defeat but this was also the culmination of his growth path. He finally accepted that he could not have it all and that he had limits.
Gilgamesh's true heroism is in improving his character, not in killing monsters or traveling the world.
