Lakjaa calls on the players to speak in Amazigh and “ignores” the demands to activate its official status within the university
The request of the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Faouzi Lakjaa, to the Moroccan national team player, Oussama Al-Azouzi, to speak in Amazigh to the media, during the friendly match between the “Atlas Lions” against his Angolan counterpart, last Friday at the “Adrar” stadium in Agadir, brought back to the forefront the topic of “ignoring The President of the University himself sent a number of messages to Amazigh events regarding activating the official character of Amazigh in the university’s “logo” and its uniforms and in the shirts of national teams and clubs.
Although the university president does not miss the opportunity to meet with the Amazigh-speaking players with the media to ask them to speak in their mother tongue, as also happened during the training session for the national team in the “Qatar World Cup” when he asked the player Sofiane Amrabat to speak in the Amazigh language to the media, he overlooked his correspondence from Fifty Amazigh and civil associations from Morocco and Europe demanded that he activate the official nature of the Amazigh language and integrate it into the university’s activities. The most recent “discrimination” against the Amazigh language and identity occurred during the unveiling of the tripartite logo for the 2030 World Cup.
More than 50 associations had drawn the attention of the university president to the shortcomings in organizing football matches, and recorded the absence of the use of the official Amazigh language, as mentioned in the organic law and Articles 27 and 28, considering that the jerseys of the players in the male and female national teams, and the various Moroccan teams competing in the tournament The national team is included among the symbols of the Moroccan state and its institutions, as well as the buses that transport the players and all the means and tools used by the university.
The signatories of the letter called on Fawzi Lakjaa to “work to activate this law in the institution that you supervise, because of your known wisdom, insight, and respect for the law, and because of the pioneering roles that the university plays under your leadership in introducing our country to international sports circles.”
In turn, Rachid Rakha, President of the World Amazigh Assembly, sent a letter to Faouzi Lakjaa, Chairman of the committee charged with nominating Morocco to organize the 2030 World Cup, in protest against the exclusion of the Amazigh language.
Al-Rakha expressed his disappointment at the “exclusion” of the Amazigh language and its letters “Tifinagh” from the three-member official logo, along with Spain and Portugal, proposed for organizing the 2030 World Cup finals.
