From the Epic of Gilgamesh
From the Epic of Gilgamesh 1----101
He is the one who saw everything
Anu granted him universality of knowledge for all
He saw the secret, discovered what was hidden,
He brought information about (the time) before the flood.
He had gone on a far journey, exhausting himself to the point of exhaustion,
But then he came to peace.
He carved all his works on a stone slab,
He built the Uruk Wall
Check out its interior wall that no one can equal!
He climbed the wall of Uruk and walked around it.
and examine its foundations,
He is taller than other kings, and has a luxurious appearance.
He is the hero, born of Uruk, the grunting wild bull.
Coming out the front, Commander,
He walks behind, trusted by his comrades.
A strong network, protector of its people,
He is the one who opened the mountain passes,
He was the one who dug wells in the side of the mountain.
He who crossed the ocean, the wide seas, to the rising sun,
He is the one who explored the corners of the world, searching for life.
It was he who, by his absolute power, reached the distant Utnapishtim
?Who was his birth name "Gilgamesh"
Two-thirds God and one-third human.
There is no competitor who can raise arms against him.
His comrades stand (alert), paying attention to (his orders?),
Gilgamesh bathes after the battle with Humbaba
He cleans his weapons and puts on his best clothes.
He also wears his crown as a symbol of his authority.
The goddess Ishtar approaches Gilgamesh and asks him to marry her, promising him that he will not lack anything as her husband.
He will have a new carriage and a luxurious mansion.
Gilgamesh rejects her offer.
He tells her that she has taken many lovers, and that she always abandons them in the end for someone new.
He says that his fate would not be different if he agreed to marry her
Ishtar becomes angry and returns to her father and asks Anu to send the Bull of Heaven to punish Gilgamesh for his arrogance.
If Anu does not send the bull, she threatens to break down the gates of the underworld and raise the dead.
Anu warns that the bull will cause seven years of drought and famine, but Ishtar assures him that she has enough grain in her stores to allow people and farm animals to survive for seven years.
Ishtar leads the bull to the gates of Uruk, but he first goes to the river.
Its snoring causes earthquakes and creates large cracks in the ground that swallow many people.
Enkidu and Gilgamesh work together to subdue the bull.
Gilgamesh delivers the fatal blow.
They cut the heart of the bull to offer it to Shamash.
Ishtar appears on the city wall and curses Gilgamesh.
Enkidu tears off a large piece of the bull's thigh and throws it at the goddess, shouting insults.
Ishtar responds by filling the walls with her worshipers, all of whom mourn the dead bull.
Gilgamesh uses the bull's horns to beautify the city, and makes offerings to the god Lugal-banda, the former king of Uruk and Gilgamesh's father.
