A strange phenomenon has been occurring annually for more than a century in the Republic of Honduras in Central America, specifically in the city of Yoro (Depatmento de Yoro).
In fact, the phenomenon of rain from fish has been reported in many places around the world, but Yoro in Honduras is the only place where strange rainfall is reported every year, sometimes several times a year.
The mysterious and strange phenomenon is known as “rain of fish.” It is a real rain of fish. Although it is an annual event, no one has actually seen fish falling from the sky, but there is photographic and video evidence of hundreds of fish covering entire areas after strong storms. No one knows for sure the reason behind the phenomenon although some locals actually believe that fish fall from the sky, a miracle that has been occurring for more than a century and a half.

The phenomenon of rain of fish
The time of occurrence of the phenomenon is between the months of May and July, and sometimes it occurs twice a year, and it begins with the appearance of a black cloud in the sky, followed by lightning, thunder, strong winds, and heavy rain for two hours or more.
After this storm ends, the ground becomes covered with fish, which the people take home with them to cook and eat.
In 1970, a team of scientists happened to be in Europa when the fish rain occurred that year, and although they did not see the fish rain itself, they confirmed that the ground was covered in fish.
However, the interesting thing they noticed was that all the fish were roughly the same size, were blind, and were not the species typically found in the area's waterways. These discoveries led them to hypothesize that the fish must live in underground rivers or caves where few fish lead. Light can blind them, and floods during a severe storm must push subterranean fish above ground. This is the most widely accepted theory, although it has not yet been confirmed.
But the strange thing is that the type of fish that was found does not inhabit the waters adjacent to the town, which are the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the type that lives in shallow waters only, not salty waters. How could it reach the town, knowing that the Atlantic Ocean is 72 km away from it?
Despite the strangeness of this natural phenomenon, the people of Honduras have been keen to celebrate since 1998 by organizing a festival they call the “Festival of the Rain of Fishes.”
They say that they do not need any explanation for this phenomenon, as they believe that it is a divine miracle that occurred in honor of one of the priests, Father Jose Manuel Soberana, who visited the town and prayed to God in a prayer that lasted three days and nights to provide for its people and prevent them from poverty after it had been suffering from extreme poverty, so this phenomenon began to be repeated every day.
