According to walesonline, Waughan Cave at the bottom of Pembroke Castle offers scientists a hearty meal to learn about the way humans lived in the Ice Age and how they used the cave.
Dr. Rob Dennis from the University of Aberdeen says that a team of 20 archaeologists will begin excavations in the cave, which is expected to last for 3 weeks, at the end of June 2022, and these works are funded by the Natural History Museum and the British Cave Research Society, Scientists expect to find important human parts that have remained undisturbed for more than 10,000 years.
Dr. Dennis adds that the first work to discover the cave took place in the summer of 2021 so that scientists realize that there is very important evidence of human civilization completely hidden in deep underground layers, especially below Pembrokeshire Castle, which is very famous in England and the world, known as the birthplace of Henry VII.
Scientists' doubts about the importance of this cave were confirmed after they found the remains of reindeer bones and the woolly mammoth, which indicates that the cave was one of the important places in the Mesolithic period, i.e. the middle stone age and the period before the emergence of agriculture in northwestern Europe, which scientists date from a period of 10 Thousands to 5 thousand years BC.
The importance of the discovery is due to the location of the cave also that came in Pembroke on the Melford Haven waterway, which was the main starting point for Ireland and witnessed the golden ages of Henry II, King John and other medieval kings, specifically during the 13th century.
