A Tunisian crowned at the Tafsut Festival for Amazigh Cinema
Young Tunisian director Ibn Gabes "Chahine Belrich" won the award for best screenplay for the upcoming Tamirthio Azrou Zakira film at the fourth edition of the Tafsut Festival of Amazigh Cinema, which was held in Morocco on July 23, 2022.
And “Tamourthiou Azrou.. Memory of the Coming” is a 66-minute documentary film, script and dialogue, “Shahin Belrich,” which surveys nearly a century of the biography of the Amazigh village of “Azrou” or “Zarawa” located in the governorate of Gabes, an abandoned village in which stones remained witness to the passage of The human being, but its inhabitants left it successively and spread in the country and the village became for them mere memories with which to furnish their nights.
The film took 10 years of research and documentation from its young director, Shaheen Belrich. And recording the stories told by women, guardians of a memory threatened with fading.
Filming of this film began in 2013 on the occasion of the organization of the first Amazigh demonstration in Zarawa, and the idea became crystallized in 2019 when the “Day of Return” demonstration was organized, which brought together the people of Tamazrat scattered in the country around stories of nostalgia and memories.
Shaheen Belrich, a film director from the new generation, chose to dig deep into the caves of the Amazigh memory, in search of scenes that only survived in the memory of those who lived them. Therefore, he consciously and intentionally returned to her the pulse of life out of nostalgia first and from the angle of repairing the cracks of identity and belonging secondly. If politics is powerless in the face of memory, art is able to fly away and connect the past with the present, in search of “the memory of the future.”
