Scientists discover why humans can speak compared to other primates 195
Have you ever wondered why humans are able to talk and share conversations? While we know that each species of organism has its own language of communication, direct speech, language, and vocal expression, according to scientists, only distinguish humankind, especially compared to primates.
According to the siteinterestingengineeringAfter conducting anatomical experiments on 43 species of primates, including chimpanzees, gorillas, mandalas, baboons, macaques, gibbons, orangutans, and others, scientists discovered that some of the advanced modifications in the human larynx are specifically responsible for humans' ability to speak.
Scientists confirm that these primates lack a thin vocal membrane in the larynx, but instead have air sacs that are largely responsible for the loud sounds made by monkeys.

Scientists have shown that this vocal membrane is simpler than that found in the larynx of primates and is responsible for humans' ability to control sound vibrations and thus release different sounds that characterize language and increase their ability to sing, for example, and various vocal activities.
Primate zoologist Takeshi Nishimura says vocal structures are more complex in primates, which prevents them from controlling sound vibrations.
But scientists are puzzled about the exact time of the appearance of this vocal membrane due to the absence of soft tissues in the fossils, but it is likely that this simplification in vocal structures came with Australopithecus, who appeared in Africa for the first time 3.5 million years ago, while others suggest that it only appeared in Our species, which first appeared in Africa 2.4 million years ago.
Scientists confirmed that this simplification of the vocal apparatus did not give humans the ability to speak per se, but rather increased the ability to control sounds and thus the development of human language.

Of course, human speech and language development are very complex matters and involve many sounds, but the ability of the human vocal system and the larynx to emit a very diverse group of sounds is one of the things that baffles scientists, especially when compared with other organisms.
