Public enthusiasm for Kachabia in Algeria
Public enthusiasm for Kachabia in Algeria 1246
Biskra recorded a particular enthusiasm from the public at the kachabia stand to acquire this handcrafted overcoat. The kachabia,  a traditional Algerian from the amazigh chaouia outfit presented
in different models for adults and children, woven in pure wool or wbar (camel hair), was of particular interest to visitors.
For the craftsman Badreddine Hafani from M'sila, the modernized model of cut kachabia particularly attracts young people in the winter period, especially those living abroad.

Basically it is a long brown robe similar to the djellaba but much thicker with a hood. The Kachabia is woven with pure wool or wbar (camel hair).
This outfit comes from the Djelfa region in central Algeria. It is very popular with the inhabitants of the central and eastern semi-arid regions of Algeria (Ammi Moussa, Relizane, Chlef, Djelfa, M'sila, Aurès, Biskra, Bou-Saada, etc.).
It is part of the outfits worn by the Chaouis and was subsequently exported throughout the country and even crossed borders because the outfit is also worn in neighboring countries such as Morocco and Tunisia.
Today there are modern kachabia with different colors and different patterns also worn by women even if in the Algerian tradition it remains a male outfit.

According to one of the craftsmen of the traditional weaving workshop in Boussaâda, the various models meet the multiple tastes of a clientele scattered across the country and no longer limited to particular regions.
Mrs. Djazia, a visitor to the show and living in a wilaya in the center of the country, considers that dressing her boys in kachabia, which she finds elegant, allows her to display her attachment to national identity and contribute to the preservation of a authentic traditional dress.
The exhibition of date palm derivatives and souvenir gifts, which is held at the house of traditional crafts, brings together until January 4, 65 craftsmen from several wilayas. It is organized by the Chamber of Traditional Crafts and Trades (CAM) and the local tourism and crafts department.
