Family and friends of Hussein Al-Manuzi commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of his “kidnapping”
The family and friends of Hussein Al-Manuzi commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of his kidnapping on October 29, 1972, from the Tunisian capital, on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Lawyer’s House in Casablanca, under the slogan “Mumfakinch for Truth and Justice.”
In a statement, the family affirmed that "the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the kidnapping of Hussein is an occasion to pay tribute to the role of Hussein's parents in the struggle for truth, justice and the fight against impunity." It is also an occasion to renew the call to the officials who are holding Al-Hussein alive today in a secret prison or in an unknown grave to release him and free him from the hell of enforced disappearance.
It also stressed that it is “an opportunity to confirm the family’s and human rights associations’ demands to complete the investigations and search the secrets of the secret detention center Fixed Point 3 on the Zaair Rabat Road, from which Al-Hussein escaped and was imprisoned again - (source: the final report of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission).” What is stated in the statement.
The statement issued by the Al-Manuzi family, entitled “There is no reconciliation without announcing the truth, and no justice without the administration of justice,” said that the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary comes in the “absence of two symbols of defense of the right to life, and they are the parents of the disappeared detainee: the late Khadija Shaw, who died.” On October 30, 2016, and the late Hajj Ali Al-Manuzi, who died on February 26, 2014.”
He added, "Hussein El Menouzi, an aircraft mechanic who was dismissed from Royal Air Maroc in the early sixties due to his union activity, immigrated to Brussels to work as a technician in the Belgian airline Sabina, and who will continue his political and union work among members of the Moroccan community, framing and keeping pace with its expectations and aspirations." “.
The Al-Manuzi family explained, “This struggle, union and political commitment, made him the focus of follow-up by anti-democratic agencies, waiting for opportunities to silence his voice calling for rejecting tyranny and laying the foundations of a democratic system. And this is what actually happened, as he was kidnapped on October 29, 1972 in Tunisia, and taken to Morocco in a diplomatic car.”
“It is clear that the goal of the kidnapping plot, which was planned and orchestrated at the highest levels of the hierarchy of power in Morocco, was to silence the voice of liberation, which was calling for a struggle against absolute power and working to mobilize the living forces for the democratization of institutions and the respect and maintenance of human rights “. Says the same source.
He added, "The family and friends of Al-Hussein Al-Manuzi did not stop demanding the full truth about his fate, despite all attempts at restrictions, repression and intimidation. They constantly expressed their sympathy with the right to life, and emphasized that it is not possible to talk about reconciliation without revealing the full truth, and it is not possible to say justice to the victims without acknowledgment of justice.
The Al-Manuzi family expressed their "solidarity with the families of the kidnapped and all support for the demand for the establishment of an independent national mechanism for the truth in order to put an end to all grave violations of human rights."
