Guelma: Discovery of an archaeological site
Researchers from the National Center for Research in Archeology (CNRA) have discovered in the commune of Guelaat Bousbaâ (wilaya of Guelma) a new archaeological site "of great historical importance" belonging to various Roman periods which built with Amazigh hands, has indicated on Thursday the APS agency, the director of the wilaya of culture and the arts, Mr. Boudjemaâ Benamirouche.
The latter specified that the discovery was made by a CNRA team during a search operation of an archaeological city supposed to be located at the location of one of the districts of this town 12 km away to the east. East of the city of Guelma within the framework of an agreement between the CNRA and the Ministry of Culture and the Arts.
The preliminary data communicated by the research team which will continue its excavations until the current mid-November indicate archaeological pieces of great historical value for the region and the country in general, specified the same executive who, added that the final results of the team's work will be communicated during a national study day to be organized in Guelma in the coming days.
For its part, the communication cell of the wilaya grouping of the National Gendarmerie, indicated in a press release that the discovery of the archaeological site where historical remains were found was made in the presence of the Gendarmerie brigade of Guellaat Bousbaâ.
She specified that the objects discovered were handed over to the president of the People's Communal Assembly of this commune to ensure their preservation in parallel with the opening of an investigation into the case in application of the instructions of the public prosecutor at the Court of Guelma.
The same source indicated that the beginning of the archaeological research dates back to the last days with the launch of the excavations looking for the Roman archaeological city which would be in the city Atti El-Hadi of the commune of Guelaat Bousbaâ by the scientific team of the CNRA under of the Ministry of Culture and the Arts.
The discovery of the new site came after the extension by the team of researchers of the excavations to agricultural land belonging to an individual to the east of the commune of Guelaat Bousbaâ at a place called El Baguitat.
