Toronto is in the midst of a historic skyscraper race, as two projects compete for the title of tallest building in Canada.
A planning application has been submitted on behalf of contractors Pinnacle International, hoping to gain approval to increase the height of the two tallest towers in the One Yonge mega-complex.
The application seeks permits to add 10 and 12 floors to the 95- and 80-storey towers of the Pinnacle One Yonge complex, bringing the new heights to 105 and 92 floors.
If the application is approved, the additional floors will make the complex, which is called SkyTower, the tallest tower in Canada, with a staggering height of more than 344 meters.

If all goes as planned, the proposed 105-story tower will be the first Canadian building to exceed 100 floors.
It should be noted that this proposed increase in height is a direct response to a similar planned height increase for The One at Yonge and Bloor, which is also vying for the title of tallest building in Canada, knowing that both competing towers are already under c
onstruction.
Aiming for the title of Canada's tallest tower, it was proposed to increase the height of The One in late 2020, to obtain permission to build a luxury apartment and hotel tower at 94 floors, or 338 metres.

Even if the proposed floor increases for The One and Pinnacle One Yonge are not approved, each would still be higher than Canada's tallest building at 298 metres, the Bank Tower.
