A photographer documents the “angry” expressions of a female owl bird inside a tree trunk
American photographer, Mark Schocken, was heading to a local park in the US state of Florida one morning when he heard about a female “Eastern Screech Owl” hiding in a tree.
Shoken wasted no time, as he went to the park with his photography equipment to document the scene that awaits him.
After an hour of waiting, the female owl did appear from a hole in the tree, but after 15 minutes she disappeared again.
And after days of returning to the site again and again, the American had a funny photo of a female owl with her young that led him to the finals of the 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
The photographer said in an interview with CNN in Arabic: “(A female owl bird) appeared in the nest hole, and shortly thereafter, a young female owl made his way to the nest hole with his mother. To be honest, the mother didn't look very happy, and the baby owl looked like it was looking at the outside world for the first time.”
The expressions of a young female owl bird suggest this indeed, thanks to its eyes full of curiosity about what is around it.
The two birds remained in that position for only a few minutes, which means that the photographer's speed was important.
Fortunately, the American was able to document several clips of the funny situation.
“Seeing them together in such a confined space was so exciting, and I considered myself very lucky to have such good timing, being in the right place, at the right time for sure!” Schocken said.
According to the photographer, this photo was very popular, and thousands of Instagram users liked it.
The American photographer explained: “I think what makes them so special are the expressions of the mother and her little one.. I was smiling even while taking pictures of them. And I could see that the scene was very cute and funny at the same time.”
Schocken was elated when he reached the finals in the photography competition, and said: “I was also happy because it is one of my favorite photos ever, and it is always great to receive recognition for a photo that I personally really like.”
