The Algerian military authorities prevented the observant Amazigh artist, Lahlou Abd al-Rahman, known as “Awlahlou,” from leaving the country, heading to European countries and America to participate in artistic concerts on the occasion of the Amazigh New Year 2973.
The Amazigh artist, known for his committed songs and defending the Amazigh cause in its inclusiveness, found himself prevented from leaving Houari Boumediene Airport, towards France, Canada and the United States as part of an artistic tour, to revitalize the beginning of the Amazigh New Year.
The opposition Rally for Culture and Democracy party considered the travel ban “an attack on freedom of movement and the practice of artistic activity in violation of the constitution.”
The party said: “In addition to the marginalization and ban it suffers from through Algerian channels and radio, it is prevented from carrying Algerian culture to other countries,” expressing its solidarity with the artist, Olehlou.

He called for an end to "the exploitation of the security judiciary against those who hope for a modern and advanced Algeria," reiterating his adherence to the need to respect freedom of expression and put an end to arbitrariness and stifling public life.
For his part, lawyer and professor Sofiane Waali commented on the phenomenon of being prevented from leaving the national territory, saying that it “affected movement activists, university students and investors without any decision being issued by the representative of the republic or the court judge.”
The lawyer added, according to what was reported by the Algerian “Radio M”, “we do not know the reasons for most of the cases of banning people from leaving the national territory, although the constitution, which is considered the supreme law in the country, guarantees the right of movement for all Algerians, and the international treaties that Algeria has signed guarantee this right for all humanity.”
