An explosion as big as our Solar System spotted by scientists
Experts have just discovered an explosion like no other in space. Guess what: this explosion is... perfectly flat. Disconcerting.
Things are happening above our heads. But what scientists have just spotted is beyond comprehension and calls into question a lot of knowledge : an explosion the size of our solar system has taken place, which is already impressive. But that's not the craziest thing: indeed, this explosion was... flat , of a shape similar to that of a disc . And that, no one expected.
Never seen
To be more precise, it is a fast blue optical transient, an extremely rare type of explosion, in particular contrast to supernovae . This phenomenon occurred 180 million light-years from our Earth. The Royal Astronomical Society, which mentioned this discovery, admitted that it had never seen such a flat explosion.
For now, experts are on the sidelines and hope they can learn more in the weeks and months to come. They describe this phenomenon as "weird" and even more "weird" now. It must be said that this type of FBOT explosion does not behave like the others, being very bright and very fast in their evolution.
?What is the explanation
Dr Justyn Maund of the University of Sheffield, lead author of the study, attempted an explanation: "I hope this new finding will help us to find out more. There are a few potential explanations for this: the stars involved may have created a disk just before they died or they could be failed supernovae , where the star's core collapses into a black hole or neutron star which then eats up the rest of the star . "
Stay connected , we will give you news of this phenomenon if the scientists manage to find out more!
