Discovering a fish swimming in a place that is the deepest ever
The fish may be at or very close to the maximum depth any fish can survive
Scientists have filmed a fish swimming at unusual depths in the Pacific Ocean off southern Japan, making it the deepest such observation ever made.
The snail fish was photographed swimming at a depth of 8336 meters.
According to experts, this fish may be at or very close to the maximum depth any fish can survive, as the previous deepest observation of fish was made at a depth of 8 meters, so this discovery beats the depth record by 178 meters.
Although the snailfish was not caught to fully determine its species, a similar snailfish was captured even higher at a depth of 26,319 feet which holds the record for the deepest fish ever caught.
