The Directorate of Culture and Arts of the state of Tipaza announced on Saturday the discovery of an “important” archaeological site dating back to the Punic period in the city of Quraya.
The director of the sector, Sabiha Tahrat, explained to the Algerian News Agency that the new discovery relates to an archaeological site dating back to the second or third century BC.

At the archaeological site, researchers found a cemetery containing 12 funerary chambers, containing pottery, funerary furniture, some remains of human bones, and bronze coins.
The spokeswoman added that searches are currently underway at the site, which specialists and experts affiliated with the National Center for Research in Archeology described as a "historically and archaeologically important" discovery.
This discovery was made after the Cultural Heritage Department of the Sector Directorate of Tipaza received information about a sudden discovery of an archaeological site in the Sidi Brahem area of the Qoraiya district.
