Zahi Hawass on the origin of the Egyptians: They are not Africans
In light of the crisis of the movie "Cleopatra", which showed the pharaonic queen with dark skin in the "Netflix" documentaries and caused widespread anger in Egypt, the prominent Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass spoke again about the origin of the Egyptians.

3 opinions about the origin of the Egyptians
Hawass said that there are 3 opinions in this regard that were previously presented in his lectures. The first says that they are the sons of Ham and Sam, meaning that they are from Asia and Africa, according to what was reported by the "Middle East" newspaper.
He added that the second opinion was presented by the Senegalese Anta Diop, who believes that the ancient Egyptian is of African descent, but a conference held at UNESCO years ago found that there was no evidence to prove this theory.
Civilization builders
As for the third opinion, it is based on the Naqada excavations in Upper Egypt, which were carried out by the founder of Egyptology, Sir Flinders Petrie, and this opinion says that "the people who were buried in this region are the makers of the ancient Egyptian civilization)."
Hawass added, "It is clear that the Pharaonic civilization did not exist except on the land of Egypt, and those who made it came from the land of Egypt, which had all the elements for building this civilization."

questionable analysis
It is noteworthy that the results of the first complete analysis of the genome of the ancient population of Egypt indicated, in 2017, that their roots are from the Levant and Turkey in the Middle East, and they are not of African origin from the middle of the brown continent like the current population of Egypt, according to a study published by Nature Communications, issued by the famous British scientific journal Nature. An Egyptian expert confirmed that all the information contained in the study is incorrect, and that the Egyptians have ancient Egyptian origins, not Levantine or African.
But the Egyptian antiquities expert Abd al-Rahim Rayhan responded to this study at the time by saying that the origins of the Egyptians are ancient and not Levantine, Turkish or African, stressing that the study of the British scientific magazine Nature, which was based, as it claims, on a complete analysis of the genome of the ancient population of Egypt, relied on DNA analysis. Of the ninety mummies, their owners lived from 1400 BC to the year 400 AD, and they are mummies resulting from excavations in one area called Abu Sir Al-Malaq belonging to the Wasti Center in Beni Suef.
