7things you should never give up in a relationship
There are some non-negotiables in every partnership. Take betrayal, for example. or physical or emotional abuse. Relationships require a lot of sacrifice and understanding to be able to continue without completely abandoning your values, principles and self-respect.
With that in mind, here are seven things you should never compromise on in a relationship.
1-Self-esteem
Don't allow your partner or anyone to undermine your self-confidence or make you lose your self-worth. Don't stay in a relationship with someone who makes you feel bad about yourself. You should not build your identity according to the perspective of others, but you should be true to yourself and your opinions and beliefs. Your self-esteem should not depend on your partner's opinion. In fact, relationships are greatly influenced by the way we feel about others, and that includes the way we feel about ourselves.
2-Personal beliefs
Your beliefs should not be questioned. No matter how much you love your partner, don't give up on your personal beliefs, it's not an option that can be compromised. Always try to reach a middle ground that satisfies everyone without giving up your principles. It is important not to compromise to the point where you start to lose yourself. Most relationships require compromise to a certain extent, but how far can we compromise without losing ourselves? If you have to compromise excessively and compromise your values to preserve the relationship, you are definitely making a huge mistake.
3-Dreams and goals
Your partner should support your dreams and goals. Don't give up hope of achieving something just because your partner or someone says you're not talented enough. Even if your dream seems far-fetched, your partner should stand by you and encourage you instead of destroying you.
4-The family
If he truly loves you, he will do everything he can to get along with your family, but, if your partner tries to isolate you from your family or turn you against them, then this is a cause for concern. At first you may feel special because he wants to possess you, but with time, you will realize that he is distancing you from your family in order to control you and make you weak in front of him.
5-Your own time
No matter how much you love each other, it's important to spend time apart. You can stay home and catch up on your favorite TV shows or just hang out with friends. It's good that your partner wants to be with you, but it shouldn't be at the expense of your free time. Couples generally need some time with themselves or with their family and friends. Plus, if you two are always together, you won't have a chance to miss each other.
6-Friendships
Everyone needs good friends in their life. Good friendships make life richer and can help you get through unexpected difficult adversities that pop up in your life. If you have a group of trustworthy people in your life, do your best to keep them close. Find ways to stay in touch with your friends without integrating your new partner into your own group of friends.
7-Respect
Your partner should always treat you with respect. Even if you're having an argument and you're both angry at each other, he should still talk to you with respect. This respect should also extend to your loved ones and even strangers. If your partner doesn't respect your family, close friends, or people who provide service like waiters, then this is a sign that he has some personal issues.
