Scientists say that great rivers recently flowed in Mars
It seems that large rivers recently flowed on Mars, according to what scientists say. According to them, the flowing water took the form of larger rivers with a much stronger flow rate than on Earth. It also seems to have been around for much longer than we imagined.
Streams of flowing water have carved deep channels into the surface of Mars at "hundreds of locations," according to scientists.
Satellite images and data from NASA's Curiosity Rover also indicate that many of these rivers were twice the width of the rivers we see on Earth.
Evidence indicates that these rivers may have existed for about a billion years.
And these results and information remain vague, because scientists had believed that the "Red Planet" was losing its atmosphere and drying up during that period.
Dr. Edwin Kite of the University of Chicago said, "It is difficult for us to basically explain the formation or existence of rivers or lakes based on the information we have. This makes the problem even more difficult."
Scientists estimated the amount of water flowing through river channels on Mars between 3 and 20 kilograms per square meter per day, after the team of scientists studied more than 200 Martian river beds from all over the planet.
The information they collected after studying the width and depth of the channels and the size of the circular pebbles in them revealed the volume of water and the force that was flowing through it.
The strange thing, according to the researchers who wrote on the subject in the journal "Science Advances", is that the rivers continued to flow until the "last geological minute" before the planet turned into a desert.
Dr. Kite adds, "We expected the rivers to be gradually decreasing in size, but this is not what we noticed. The rivers have shrunk in distance - hundreds of kilometers back instead of thousands - but the flow has remained strong."
It also seemed that the rainy days were very heavy.”
And he added, saying: There is one possibility, which is that the Martian weather was linked to a control button that was sometimes placed on the dry cycle and at other times on the wet cycle.
