The true story behind the most isolated house in the world
The island of Elyai is part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, which is currently completely deserted, but about 300 years ago it was inhabited.
On the island of Eliai, there lived 5 families, whose livelihood depended on fishing, the famous puffins, and livestock raising.
By the 1930s, the last residents had left the island, which has since become deserted .
The reality surrounding the mysterious house on the island is much less exciting than the theories surrounding it, as the house was built in the 1950s by the Elliðaey Hunting Association, to make it a base for puffin hunters to facilitate their hunting trips.
Especially since puffins abound in this particular area, as they feed on the abundant supplies of fish in the waters below the island, according to what the British newspaper The Sun reported.
Being on a remote island near the Arctic Ocean, the property has no electricity, running water or internal sewer pipes, but it does feature a complex reservoir system that captures rainwater for use by fishermen.
The island on which the most isolated house in the world is located is also listed as a nature reserve, as it is a major nesting area for many bird species.
While anyone can visit the island for free, anyone can even go there and spend a few days of solitude amidst this picturesque nature that the site provides.
