NASA's Ingenuity helicopter, called the Marscopter, captured stunning images of debris on the surface of the red planet Mars, which has been called the other world.
NASA's Mars helicopter captured stunning images of 'another world' debris on the surface of the Red Planet. The images were captured by NASA's Ingenuity helicopter, dubbed Marscopter, the first aircraft to achieve flight on another planet.

The helicopter has completed 67 flights and is preparing to embark on its longest flight yet. The images, taken last April, show destroyed debris on the surface of Mars, but although it has been dubbed 'otherworldly', it is not alien in origin.
The debris is actually from the landing gear that landed the Ingenuity and Perseverance rover in 2021.
Speaking to the New York Times, Ian Clark, the engineer who worked on Perseverance's parachute system, said: "There's definitely a sci-fi element to it. It's otherworldly, isn't it?"

He continued: "They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, but it is also worth an infinite amount of engineering understanding. The images could provide insight for other technicians working on future missions to Mars."
He said: "The Perseverance rover made the best documented landing on Mars in history, with cameras showing everything from inflating the parachute to landing, but Ingenuity's images offer a different point of view."

He said: 'If they reinforce that our systems work as we think they do or provide even a single data set of engineering information that we can use to plan the return of Mars samples, that would be amazing.' If not, the images are still tremendous and inspiring.' '.
