The Akarit tree occupies an area estimated at 2,000 square metres, and its circumference reaches 116 metres. The “blessed tree” annually produces more than 1,500 liters of oil, which is characterized by high quality attested by all residents of the region.

The head of the Plant Production Department at the Regional Commission for Agricultural Development in Tataouine, Nabil Yahiaoui, confirmed in a statement to Tunisian Radio Mosaique FM that its ownership belongs to 40 members of the Akrout family.
Its owners also confirmed that it is more than 900 years old, while its circumference is 135 meters and its covered area is 1,100 square meters, while its height exceeds 5 meters, and it is a type of Shamlali olive.
Its production in dry years ranges between 1,200 and 1,500 liters of olive oil.
