The Amazigh roots of Greek mythology and the discovery of the ruins of Atlantis in Morocco
The influence of ancient amazigh civilization was not limited to the East only, but there was also an influence towards the north before the emergence of Greek and Roman civilization, where we can find texts among ancient Greek writers indicating the primacy of Morocco in civilization over their countries and their influence by the amazighs, especially in the field of metology, that is, ancient religious thought, It is known that Greek mythology is considered the foundation of European civilization, as various sciences have branched out from it, such as philosophy, astronomy, medicine, and so on. Among the testimonies indicating the amazigh roots of Greek mythology, we present a group of texts, the most important of which is what was written by Diodorus of Sicily.
Where he said: “The Atlanteans, subjects of the god Atlas, are the most civilized Libyans in these areas. They possess a prosperous land and many cities, and it is said that the gods were born in their cities in the regions near the ocean, and this is consistent with what was mentioned in Greek mythology...until He says, “They are distinguished from their neighbors by their strong faith and good treatment of foreigners.” Likewise, the poet and singer Homer, the author of the epics “Iliad” and “Odyssey,” expressed his longing to visit the land of Morocco in a song of his in which he says: “I will indeed go to visit the borders of the fertile land, near the ocean where the goddess Tetus was born.”
The Greeks considered their gods to be the children of the amazigh gods, and that they were born in Morocco, and that some of them appeared in Morocco before they knew them. Herodotus mentioned that the Libyans were the only ones who sanctified the god Poseidon since ancient times, and to them is due the credit for the Greeks’ knowledge of this god, and he adds that The goddess Athena is Libyan and that she is the daughter of Poseidon. Diodorus of Sicily mentioned in his talk about the daughters of the Atlas that by marrying the gods and heroes, they formed the human race. Maya married Zeus and gave birth to Hermes, the owner of useful inventions for people, while the rest of the Atlanteans gave birth to sons, some of whom became famous for building cities and others for forming several nations.
Diodorus also mentioned that it was mentioned in the stories of the Libyans that Dionysus was the son of Amun and Amalta, and about Zeus he said that Cronus, the brother of the god Atlas, was characterized by treachery and dishonesty. It is said that he married his sister Rhea and gave birth to Zeus, who was later known as Olympian. All of these stories, despite their mythical nature, are It is no less important, as the ancient Greeks and Romans would not have believed all of this if their collective memory did not carry the idea of the civilizational superiority of the Atlanteans and their precedence over the religious thought that the Greeks were adopting at that time, and even some sciences such as astronomy, as they mention that Atlas honored Heraclius by teaching him principles in astronomy. It is known that Atlas excelled in this science, and he skillfully created a celestial planet, especially since he was carrying the dome of the sky on his shoulders. Diodorus also mentions that the Atlanteans believed that Uranus was the first to rule their country, and he conquered all inhabited countries, especially in the west and north, and he contemplated the stars and heralded the events that would take place in the universe, and he taught his people to calculate the year according to the movement of the sun, and to calculate the months depending on the movement of the moon, and he taught them Likewise, the cycle of the seasons of the year, and thus people’s ignorance of the eternal system of the stars, and their certainty of the quality of Uranus’ predictions of the future, all of this made them take him as a god. According to the ancient writers, the city of Atlantis is linked to the African continent, especially the land of the Libyans, which is towards the ocean, that is, Morocco today. Here, too, it will be opposite the Pillars of Hercules. Then, if a great earthquake occurred with the tsunami, it is possible to talk about many cities that met the same fate. As for Morocco, the ancients talk about the fact that their land was rich in grains and they owned several cities. Most of these cities that they talked about, we do not know their ruins now. There may be cities that were submerged by the ocean. Even the ruins of Atlantis, which were announced by the German scientist Michael Hubner on the Moroccan coast in the city of Agadir, the excavations stopped. After his death, the site still contains many secrets and mysteries that need to be studied and excavated. Hubner says within the caldera structure and on the surrounding hills are numerous ruins (perhaps N >> 1000) of different types. Among these are the foundation walls of large buildings, semicircular stone wall fragments, horseshoe-shaped floors, caves and lime kilns. Ancient paths and great landscapes are also present.
All the buildings were completely destroyed and give the impression of being Neolithic in origin (only after a thorough archaeological investigation can we be certain of the age of the ruins). For the most part, buildings are found in the central area of the structure. In ancient times, the entire area was highly populated: it covers a wide area of more than 20 km2.
