Bank Al-Maghrib integrates its name in Amazigh language and Tifinagh on its facade
Bank Al-Maghrib wrote on the facade of its headquarters on Boulevard Mohammed V, in the very center of the capital of Rabat, its name in the Amazigh language and in its original spelling, Tifinagh.
After the correspondence sent by the Amazigh World Assembly to the Governor of the Bank of Morocco, Mr. Abdellatif JOUAHRI, demanding that he activate the official character of the Amazigh language in the institution he supervises, the latter took the initiative to write it on the facade of its headquarters on Boulevard Mohammed V, in downtown Rabat, the name of this institution in the Amazigh language and in its original spelling, Tifinagh, this Tuesday, April 23, 2023.
From now on, the letters of BANK AL-MAGHRIB in the Amazigh language and in “Tifinagh” writing have appeared on its main facade and on the facade of its museum, as they previously did the Parliament and the Maroc Telecom company, at the request of the Amazigh NGO.
Pending its inscription on the next banknotes and the complete activation of article 22 of the organic regulatory law n°16-26, relating to the activation of the official character of the Amazigh language, which stipulates explicitly the use of the Amazigh language alongside the Arabic language, in the data included in coins and banknotes, postage stamps and seals of public administrations.
Opposite, the last letter addressed to the governor of the Bank of Morocco by the Amazigh World Assembly on August 3:

Mr. Le Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib, azul,
In connection with the aforementioned subject, and on the occasion of the issue by Bank Al-Maghrib of a commemorative silver coin of 250 dirhams, in commemoration of the twenty-fourth anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, we wish to draw your attention to your negligence and your total exclusion of the Amazigh language, which is considered an official language of the State, alongside the Arabic language, according to the Moroccan constitution of July 1, 2011.
Mr Le Wali,
If certain deputies of the nation demonstrated the refusal to approve the amendment of the bill relating to Bank Al-Maghrib, in 2019, which did not provide for the printing of securities and currency in the Amazigh language, due to the fact that the organic law relating to the activation of the official character of the Amazigh language had not yet been adopted, and which had been under study in Parliament since 2016. But this law has now been ratified and promulgated under the Dahir n°1-19-121 of 12 Muharram 1441 (September 12, 2019) and relates to the implementation of organic law n°16-26 (*) relating to the stages of activation of its integration in the field of education and in priority areas of public life, in application of the provisions of the fourth paragraph of chapter 5 of the Constitution
Article 22 of the said regulatory law explicitly stipulates that: “The mentions made on coins and bank notes, postal stamps and seals of public administrations are inserted in the Amazigh language, alongside the Arabic language.”

The continued ignoring of the insertion of the Amazigh language into coins and banknotes constitutes a blatant violation of the Moroccan constitution as well as the regulatory law relating to the activation of the official character of said indigenous language. In addition, it goes against the royal will, which His Majesty has continued to emphasize since the historic speech in Ajdir on October 17, 2001, until May 3, 2023, the date of recognition of the day of the Amazigh New Year, as a national holiday and paid day. On this occasion, His Majesty affirmed through the press release from the Royal Court that the decision to recognize the Amazigh year is part of “the constitutional consecration of the Amazigh language as the official language of the country alongside the Arabic language”, emphasizing that: “Amazigh as an essential component of the authentic Moroccan identity rich by the plurality of its tributaries and heritage common to all Moroccans without exception”.
In conclusion, we ask you, Mr. Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib, to work towards the integration of the Amazigh language, through its Tifinagh script, in the data carried on coins and bank notes, from a side. On the other hand, to insert it within your signs and signage plaques, more particularly on the facades of your headquarters in Hay Riyad and the former headquarters, in the center of the capital, in accordance with respect for the Constitution, organic law and the Royal Will.
