Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, confirmed that the leaders of the groups must adhere to the laws related to the necessity of using the Amazigh language, in addition to the Arabic language, in the signs and road signs installed on the roads.
In his answer to the question of parliamentary advisor Khaled Al-Sati about the exclusion of a number of territorial councils from the Amazigh language in new road signboards, Laftit explained that the General Guide to Road Signage (IGSR) stipulates that the writings on street signboards adopt Arabic and Amazigh letters, in addition to transcribing them in Latin letters. .
Laftit stated that the Ministry of the Interior has taken a number of measures in this regard, including supporting territorial communities to adopt road signaling standards in urban rehabilitation programs, whether those that define road priorities or those for administrative, economic and social centers of attraction.
Among the measures is also to send a periodic notice to the governors of the regions and workers of the prefectures and regions of the Kingdom in 2019, urging them to unify horizontal and vertical signaling by adopting the reference guide for road safety preparations in the urban area and the joint decision related to signaling. He urged groups to implement signaling policies in urban mobility plans.
In addition, the Ministry, in cooperation with the National Road Safety Agency, is supervising the completion of a training and awareness program on the General Guide to Road Signaling and the General Guide to Road Safety, targeting all regions of the Kingdom.
Khaled Al-Sati, the parliamentary advisor for the National Labor Union in Morocco, revealed in a question addressed to the Minister of the Interior that a group of territorial councils had put up new signboards, but they did not adopt the Amazigh language alongside the Arabic language, but rather adopted the French language, which is contrary to The provisions of Chapter Five of the Constitution and the requirements of Organic Law No. 26.16 relating to defining the stages of activating the official language of Amazigh and how to integrate it in the field of education and in priority areas of public life.”
