Orbiting the Milky Way just once would take the Sun approximately 220 million to 230 million Earth years, according to Keith Hawkins, assistant professor of astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin.
As also reported on the Live Science website:
In this case, if we measure time with a “galactic clock,” the age of the entire Earth will be approximately 16 galactic years, the sun will have been formed about 20 galactic years ago, and the age of the universe will be approximately 60 galactic years.
“The solar system’s journey around the galaxy is similar to the Earth’s orbit around the sun,” Hawkins says. “Except that instead of revolving around a star, the sun revolves around the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.”
During its journey around the center of the Milky Way, the sun moves very quickly, estimated at about 230 kilometers per second, which is equivalent to 500 thousand miles per hour (804,672 km/hour). This enables it to continue rotating around the center of the galaxy in a circle instead of being attracted towards the black hole. It is also the speed at which any body can travel around the Earth at the equator: two minutes and 54 seconds.

Just as the Earth's year differs from the year of the other planets of our solar system, the galactic year in relation to the sun differs from the galactic year in relation to other stars in the same galaxy, and this depends only on the distance of the planet or star from the center around which it revolves. So the Galactic year is not a fixed measurement across the galaxy. Hawkins goes back to clarify, “We can say that the galactic year in relation to the Sun is between 220 and 230 million Earth years. As for the other stars in the galaxy, their galactic year is different.”
