This foundation donated about $940 million in 2021.
Spiritual motivation
Sir Hon states that life for him has now become simple and spiritually rich, adding that more than two decades ago, when he received a reward of $10 million, he felt an urge to donate and give, saying, “I donated this reward to charity,” and he had no explanation for that. Back then, “I didn't really have a clear answer to why until recently, when I realized it was a spiritual motive,” he admits with a nervous laugh.
It was around this time that he met and married his second wife, Dr. Kylie Hohn, and they co-founded LightEn, a charity that funds teaching and research in humanistic education and spirituality.
He says that his conversation with Kylie at that time was full of phrases such as “the desire of the soul, the lower mind.”

“I have come to the conclusion that while all the work I do is important, one of the most important things is spiritual education,” Sir Hon says. “We have to solve the problem of selfishness in society. It is society’s biggest crisis.”
Hoon has 4 children, including 3 twins, and grew up in Addlestone, Surrey, UK. His Jamaican-born father was a car mechanic and his mother was a legal secretary.
He studied accounting and economics at the University of Southampton before obtaining an MBA from Harvard University.

Sir Hon believes it is important to change people's consciousness to eradicate indifference and selfishness, He says that donating to combat climate change is his biggest area of giving because it affects poor countries in a catastrophic way,” noting that he was in Kenya and saw the impact of drought there, and saw people facing difficulties in agriculture.
He confirmed that he had abstained from eating meat for 20 years, suggesting that everyone abstain like him in order to protect the planet.
The report says that charitable work gave Hoon meaning and purpose in life.
He was quoted as saying that charitable work is the reason for making money. “What I found is that the more money I donate, the more money comes to me, and if I don’t donate, it won’t come. So I think that’s the secret. It sounds funny, but I don’t say that lightly.”
