Kingdom of Macicilia 1---695
The Kingdom of Massisilia, the Kingdom of the Massisils, the Kingdom of the Mazasils, or Western Numidia, one of the Numidian kingdoms in western Algeria. Western Numidia extends from the Moulouya Valley, i.e. the legal and real border between Algeria and Morocco before the French occupation, to the north of Constantine in Algeria.
The Massisils lived in the western side of the Kingdom of Numidia, and they were a tribe that was distinguished by their alliance with Carthage and their cooperation against Rome.
As for the establishment of the “Mazacilian Kingdom”. Before it became a state, it was a tribe that lived in a region later known as Tsarist Mauritania, and it disappeared as a result of wars that broke out with the “Al-Jadala tribes.” They crawled east as a result of this pressure until they settled in a large area located between the borders of the Moulouya Valley to the west and the Ambassaga River to the east. Julian also mentions that the “Mazacilian tribe,” which formed the mother cell for the unity of peoples, emerged from the West, and Pliny and Ptolemy of Geography mention the names of tribes from the Mazasselians in Caesarian Mauritania during the Roman era, and Jazal refers to them, saying that they were the remnants of the victorious tribes that marched from the West.
Sources referred to the word Mazasil for the first time around 220 BC. They were also mentioned by Polybus, who says that he found knights from the “Mazacils” among Hannibal’s army.
