Things you may not know about Sweden :
Sweden (in Swedish: Sverige), officially the Kingdom of Sweden (in Swedish: Konungariket Sverige Sv-Konungariket Sverige.oggⓘ), also called Esog, is one of the Scandinavian countries located in Northern Europe. Sweden has land borders with Norway to the west and Finland to the northeast, and maritime borders with Denmark, Germany, and Poland to the south, and Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia to the east. Sweden is also connected to Denmark by a bridge-tunnel via the Øresund.
Sweden is the fifth largest country in Europe and the largest of the Nordic countries. Despite its size, it is not very crowded, and has the second lowest population density in Europe.
Sweden covers most of the Scandinavian Peninsula, sharing it with Norway. It is also located on the border of Finland and is connected to Denmark via the famous Øresund Bridge Tunnel.
Forests cover two-thirds of Sweden's land area. The country boasts 96,000 lakes and 268,000 islands. The capital, Stockholm, extends across 14 islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea.
More than 85% of Sweden's population resides in urban areas.
Sweden ranks 23rd on the list of the richest country in the world. Although Sweden has one of the highest tax rates in the world at 51.4% of GDP, it excels at waste management, recycling 99% of its waste.
It is also the home of famous environmental activist Greta Thunberg and Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite and founder of the Nobel Prize.
The modern name "Sweden" is derived from the word "Sweoðeod", which comes from Old English, meaning "Swedish people" and which has its roots in the word "Svíþjóð" from Old Norse, the language of the people of Norway.
The name "Sweden" or something similar is used in many modern languages, with the exception of Danish, Norwegian, and of course Swedish, which uses "Sverige". There are some more unusual exceptions in some languages, such as Finnish, where the word "Ruotsi" is used, and Estonian uses the word "Rootsi", which are names that are considered etymologically related to the name "Rus", a people who inhabited the coastal areas in previous periods and have no relation to the current state of Russia, but are similar to the name "Rus". .
