The city of Khemisset hosts the first edition of the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts
The city of Khemisset will host the first edition of the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts, organized by the municipal council, under the slogan “Amazigh: Challenges and Prospects”, during the period from August 2 to 10, 2024.
Unlike a group of classical festivals, the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts aims to restore the prestige of Amazigh culture, art, literature and heritage in the capital of Zemmour. This event also constitutes a fundamental building block that paves the way for other sessions in order to highlight the importance of the cultural and artistic heritage in the city of Khemisset, and its contribution to revitalizing the tourism sector and preserving the urban memory of the region in all its manifestations.
The festival's general program includes a group of scientific seminars, theatrical and cinematic performances, poetry evenings, and training workshops on the birth and development of the Amazigh cultural movement at the August 20 Youth Center in the city of Khemisset, in addition to cinematic screenings in Hassan I Square in the Salam neighborhood, with honoring figures in the field of cinema.
The management of the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts has allocated a space for the artistic side to support various local artistic talents, as the Hay Salam Square in the center of the city of Khemisset will host artistic evenings on August 6, 7, and 8, with the participation of Najim Benabbas, Benachir El Asal, Aziz Bajtit, Hicham Bajit, Abdel-Ilah El-Sharif, Mohamed Salwaah, Noureddine Bilal, Anwar El-Fakir, Aisha Maya, in addition to performances from Ahidus and Ahwash.
According to a statement received by the newspaper “Amazigh World”, the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts will officially start on Friday, August 2nd at 4:00 pm (near the Tuesday Market) with traditional equestrian shows “Tbourida” with the participation of thirty groups of horses. The traditional industry exhibition will also start on the same day in Al Massira Square throughout the festival days. It is an opportunity for associations, craft cooperatives and individual craftsmen to display, promote, advertise and market their products. It is also an occasion for economic activation and a space for acquaintance and informing visitors about the city’s natural resources, given the commercial boom that the summer season witnesses, coinciding with the arrival of members of the Moroccan community from abroad.
The festival programme also includes a plastic arts workshop, a chess tournament, an electronic games tournament, an exhibition of historical photos of the city of Khemisset, open volleyball, and educational and recreational shows for children.
It is worth noting that the Amazigh Festival of Culture and Arts, which is supervised by the Khemisset community, will conclude its activities at the Youth House on Saturday, August 10, with artistic paintings and national songs on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the glorious Throne Day.
