Lixos River.
Lixos River. 1--1466
On the Atlantic coast of Africa is the Lyxus River, about which the ancient writers told the most wonderful legends: this was the site of the palace of Antaeus and the scene of his battle with Hercules [Heracles], and its name is associated with the gardens of the Hesperid nymphs with legendary golden apples.
The city is referred to in many ancient texts, as it contains reference to the legendary confrontation between Antaeus and Hercules, in which the latter was victorious. It was considered an important city in the journey of the Carthaginian admiral Hanoun, and Alexander Paulistor named it Lexa, the Libyan city.
