The equivalence principle .. a "failed" French attempt to overthrow Einstein's theory

What falls first to the ground? Iron ball or badminton? It is a well-known and puzzling physics question, as Galileo showed since the 17th century that all bodies, with different masses, fall with the same acceleration under vacuum conditions. Both Newton and Einstein developed this given within the "equivalence principle". The French satellite, MICROSCOPE, tried to verify this principle very precisely in space. The final results of the trial were published this week. Researchers are trying to "drop" this principle to open the door to new physics that combine general relativity and quantum mechanics.
