Algeria harshly criticized at the UN over human rights 3353
This Friday, November 11, 2022, Algeria has just been pinned at the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva after its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) where the situation of UN States is assessed every four or five years.
The United States has called on Algeria to repeal amendments to Article 87 bis of the Penal Code which "contain an overly broad definition of terrorism", and to release "journalists, human rights defenders and those who are detained under this provision” and to “update the law on associations in accordance with constitutional rights and remove restrictions on international funding for cooperation for civil society organizations”.

For their part, the United Kingdom and Germany have called on Algeria to guarantee freedom of expression and to put an end to discrimination against women.
As for the Australian delegation, it said it was “concerned by the indications that Algerians cannot fully exercise their right to freedom of expression and association or assembly as enshrined in the constitution”.
Canada has been denounced the abusive recourse of the Algerian justice to the international warrant of deposit against the Algerians.
For its part, the Israeli delegation affirmed that Israel "is extremely concerned about the human rights situation in Algeria" and that it "condemns any disproportionate use of force during peaceful demonstrations and the harassment of activists and demonstrators who are in police custody", adding that Algeria "must respect the right to religion of persons belonging to religious minorities". In passing, Algeria has led a campaign to close Christian places of worship.
On the other hand, France almost congratulated Algeria.
Moreover, the Kabyles who paid the highest bill against the Algerian regime did not miss the opportunity to demonstrate in front of the UN council.
