China.. A 3,000-Year-Old Treasury Containing Gold And Bronze Pieces Was Found
Archaeologists in China's Sichuan Province have found an ancient treasury containing 13,000 artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age.
CNN reports that archaeologists have found a 3,000-year-old treasury in southwest China containing 13,000 artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age, including a box in the shape of a turtle shell and an altar of offerings.
It became clear to archaeologists that many of the artifacts they found in six sacrificial pits near Chengdu, Sichuan Province, were made of gold, bronze and jade, and dated back to the Sanxingdui civilization that existed in the Bronze Age (1600-800 BC), which was characterized by the development of Bronze industries and construction of irrigation facilities.
But this civilization left no written documents or human remains that would have helped scientists learn more about it.
According to the official Chinese Xinhua statement, the Sanxingdui Bronze Chest has been described as an "unprecedented find". Overall, archaeologists found 3,155 relatively intact artifacts at the site including 1,238 bronzes, 543 gold, and 565 gold artifacts. jade.
Among the artifacts of particular interest to archaeologists is a small tortoiseshell box made of bronze and jade. As well as a bronze altar, 0.9 meters high.
A stunning bronze statue with the body of a snake was also found, according to the Global Times.
According to Ran Honglin, director of the Sanxingdui Cultural Relics and Archeology Research Institute, the diversity of the artifacts indicates that there was a cultural exchange between the civilizations of ancient China. For example, a statue with a human head and a snake body was characteristic of the ancient Shu civilization, while the Zhong ceremonial vessels are symbols of the Zhongyuan civilization, which was based in the central part of China.
Field excavations at Sanxingdui are scheduled to be completed in October 2022. However, before that date many artifacts will be found, telling us more about the roots of the homogeneous Chinese civilization we know today.
