The Bordj Bou Arreridj court, in the east of the country, decided in a case with interesting facts, in which a young man robbed a fifty-year-old woman of a considerable amount of money, deceiving her that he was an American who converted to Islam and wanted to marry her.
The perpetrator hails from the state of Tamanrasset and deceived his victim of his American nationality through a chat site
The court sentenced the twenty-year-old to three years in prison and a fine of 50 million centimes (about $3,000), in addition to paying compensation to the victim in the amount of 500 million centimes (30,000 dollars), while the representative of the Public Prosecution Office had sought a five-year sentence for the young man.
According to the facts of the case reported by Al-Shorouk newspaper, the young man hails from the state of Tamanrasset, in the south of the country, and used this trick to deceive the woman that he wanted to marry a Muslim woman, regardless of her social conditions and age, and then robbed her of 411 million centimeters ($25,000), which she transferred to it in batches.
The woman told the court that she had met the young man through a chat site, where he had told her that he was an American from New York State, and had deluded her that he would send her two mobile phones, a diamond ring, an amount of money estimated at $46,000 and his personal documents in order to initiate marriage procedures, but she was surprised by the interruption of communication. With it, after obtaining an amount of 411 million of them, to facilitate the passage of the alleged amounts and gifts, as he received the money through an account belonging to one of his acquaintances.
