Tanit, (Tenet, Tanit, Tanith, Tint, or Tanis), is the goddess of love, fertility, the sky, and the protector of the city of Carthage. They have the name of Neith, and her Amazigh origin confirms what a number of historians referred to about Pharaonic Egypt, and they indicated that she is a Amazigh deity who settled in the western Delta and then worshiped by the Greeks, where she was known as Athena so that Herodotus and Plato indicated that she herself is the Amazigh Neith, and it was called the greatest city Greek for "Athena".
As for the influence of this goddess in the land of the Amazighs, it is evident in what some believe that Tunisia was named after this goddess Tanit, so that the old name of Tunisia was Tanis, which made them believe that the name is just a distortion of the T to the Seine. Historians suggest that this goddess was worshiped in present-day Tunisia around Lake Tritonis, where she was born and where the Amazighs practiced female military rituals to glorify this goddess.
The symbol attributed to Tanit is a triangle (sometimes trapezoidal), surmounted by a circle and separated by a horizontal line between these two geometric shapes. The symbol, in its entirety, refers to a woman in a very simple way. Excavations have proven the presence of this symbol in various types of antiquities such as statues, amulets, and some monuments. Partial and mosaic paintings, as well as Amazigh ornaments.
