An actor of Algerian origin plays the character of "Charles Aznavour" in a film about his life
The Aznavour Foundation has announced the shooting of a feature film about the legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.
The Aznavour family agreed to produce the film, to be shown on the centenary of the singer's birth
One of the film's producers and son-in-law of the late artist, Jean Rachid Klouche, said that this work "had the blessing of Aznavour, who died five years ago."
The film, which is considered a true biography of one of the greatest artists in the history of France, is titled "Monsieur Aznavour", and is scheduled to be filmed in the summer, to be released next year, to be shown in the year of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the singer.
The biopic has been approved by the singer's family, as his son-in-law, Jean-Rachid Gullouche, will be one of the co-producers and is also the husband of the singer's daughter, Katja Aznavour.
"Aznavour accepted the idea shortly before his death, when I told him I wanted to make a movie about his life one day," Klosh said in a statement. To confirm: "He said yes. Immediately."
The production team chose the award-winning French actor of Algerian descent, Tahar Rahim, to play the role of Aznavour.
Taher Rahim is a French actor of Algerian origin, born in Belfort, France, in a family whose origins are in the Oran region. His first major role was in the movie “The Prophet” directed by “Jacques Audiard” in 2009. His performance as an actor was well received during the screening of the film in Cannes Film Festival.
Charles Aznavour is associated with Algeria in many stories, as he was close to many Algerian artistic names, and he sang in Algeria in the seventies, and he was programmed to perform at a concert in Algeria years before his death, and he also participated in the late artist Idir in one of his songs, where he sang the legend of singing . French in the Amazigh language.
