European telescope "Euclid" sets out to photograph space and solve the mystery of the dark region in the universe
Today, the European Space Agency launches the Euclid telescope into space, and the probe will be launched from Cape Canaveral in the US state of Florida, on a mission to produce a three-dimensional map of the universe.
The telescope aims to realize the mystery of the dark regions in the universe, which constitute about 95 percent of it.
Euclid will enter a fixed orbit 1.6 million km from Earth in order to photograph space with a huge camera developed in Britain.
The head of the Euclid Union, which includes 16 countries, explained that Euclid will seek to reconstruct the 13.8-billion-year-old history of the universe by dividing it into "time parts" and using a 3D photographic map to study the nature of dark matter, dark energy, and mysterious components.
This could help reveal traces left by dark matter and dark energy during galaxy formation. The nature of dark matter is still unknown, although it is believed to control only 5 percent of the visible universe.
The €1.5 billion European mission is expected to run until 2029.
